Cindy Crosby is a writer, editor, teacher, speaker and naturalist.
She is the author of seven books, and contributor to seven others. Her writing appears regularly in Publishers Weekly, and she reviewed books for Publishers Weekly for almost nine years.
Cindy has been interviewed on NBC television in Chicago, as well as numerous radio stations. Her books have been reviewed by Publishers Weekly, The Chicago Sun Times, Orion, Chicago Wilderness, and various other publications.
She also has written for many periodicals and websites, including Books & Culture, The Christian Century, Christianity Today, Mars Hill Review, Seeding the Snow, Backpacker, Quiet Spaces, Bookreporter.com, Faithfulreader.com, A Prairie Journal, and Wild Ones Journal. As a freelance writer, she wrote the monthly book review column “Bookmarks” for three years for Christianity Today and was a long-time paid reviewer for Amazon.com.
Cindy speaks and teaches on many topics, including writing, journaling, backpacking, fiction, nature, and faith. Her audiences include publishing professionals, librarians, aspiring writers, book clubs, churches, backpackers, and nature organizations.
She was writer in residence at Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior (Michigan) in 2005, and returned at the park’s invitation to backpack and teach nature journaling programs from 2006-2008. She spent nine weeks working as a volunteer in interpretation at Isle Royale in 2009. Since 2010, Cindy has worked as a seasonal park ranger at Isle Royale. Cindy is also one of four jury members for Isle Royale's Artist in Residence program (2011-2014).
Cindy also consults for several publishing companies on manuscripts and serves as a writing coach for both published and aspiring authors.
With her husband Jeff, associate publisher for InterVarsity Press, Cindy owned and operated an independent bookstore in Bloomington, Indiana, from 1983-1993.
She serves or has served as judge for several competitions: The ECPA Gold Medallion Book Awards (1995-2005); The Christy Award for Fiction (2000-2011); Christianity Today magazine’s Book of the Year awards (2003-2005, 2008-2011). She was also one of six judges for the 1998 Charley Haslam International Scholarship Essay Competition (American Booksellers Association).
